This popular workshop is designed to help media artists represent their projects clearly and concisely. Veteran filmmaker and SAW Video Director Penny McCann will take emerging film and video makers through the process of applying to art councils and cultural agencies for funding.

Focus for the workshop will be on the City of Ottawa's upcoming December 12 Arts Funding Program Deadline.  Grant's to other public funders will also be discussed, such as the Ontario Arts Council and the Canada Council, as well as SAW Video’s Production Grant, Jumpstart Mentorship program, and Indigenous Voices program.

Participants will learn the do's and don'ts of grant writing (aka "Penny's Principles of Grant Writing") and see examples of successful proposals, complete with budgets, schedules, and project descriptions. They will learn about the jury process and how to effectively present support material.

Participants will each also have time for a one-on-one session with Penny McCann to discuss the specific grants that they wish to apply for. This will be a 30 minute session and will provide the opportunity to talk with Penny about a grant you would like feedback on or a future grant you would like to apply for.
