New HD Equipment Acquisitions At SAW Video!

SAW Video has made some exciting new HD production and post production equipment purchases, all of which are ready and waiting to be rented out to producing members!

Panasonic HPX 170P HD Camera

SAW Video has made a new addition to our camera inventory with the purchase of the Panasonic AG-HPX170P.  The HPX170P is an ultra portable, tapeless, 1080p capable camcorder that records broadcast quality, full resolution HD (DVC PRO HD) onto memory-based P2 cards.

The HPX170 features full, 4:2:2 independent frame production and solid-state recording. Based on the AG-HVX200 series, the lighter HPX170 is fully solid state (no DV mechanism), and comes with a host of enhancements including a new 1/3" progressive 3-CCD 16:9 imager system, wider (28mm wide angle setting) Leica Dicomar 13X lens, an HD-SDI interface, and a built-in waveform monitor and vectorscope.
This camera delivers an excellent signal-to-noise ratio, and exceptional low-light performance. The digital signal processor with 14-bit A/D conversion and 19-bit processing assures high-quality recordings necessary for top-level production and broadcast.

The HPX170 can record in 20 different HD and SD formats - from 1080i, 1080p, 720p to 480i.  While in 720p mode 20-step frame rate selection is available from 12 to 60 fps for variable-speed shooting to achieve slow or fast motion effects.

Using 32GB P2 cards in the HPX170's two card slots, you can record up to 160 minutes in full frame DVCPRO HD formats, 128 minutes in DVCPRO50, and 256 minutes in DVCPRO before having to clear the cards.

The HPX 170P will be available for rent to SAW Video producing members for $100/day bundled with:

  • 2x 32 GB P2 cards
  • G4 laptop
  • Satchler FSB 6 tripod

Add a light kit and audio kit for $125/day.
Previous experience operating the HPX 170P or similar tapeless format HD camera, or successful completion of a SAW Video clinic is mandatory in order to rent the HPX 170P.

POST-PRODUCTION

SAW Video is proud to announce the acquisition of new software and hardware improvements to our Final Cut Pro Suite (Edit Suite B). All of the professional editing software in this suite has been upgraded.

We are now running Apple’s Final Cut studio 3. This upgrade offers a broad range of format support for projects shot in both HD and SD, an expanded assortment to Apple’s ProRes family.  For a complete list of features and improvements click here.

Adobe has not been left out of the upgrade path. Thanks to a generous donation from Adobe, we have been able to upgrade all existing Adobe CS3 suites to Adobe Production Premium CS4. CS4 brings with it a further support for the newest tape and tapeless HD formats, as well brings with it further integration between its different programs.  CS4 is available on both Mac and PC platforms.

SAW Video has also added hardware support to Edit B in the form of the “Matrox MX02 LE”, a powerful tool that gives both Adobe CS4 and Final Cut Studio the ability to capture and output to and from analogue sources like Beta SP directly. It also allows you to capture using such industry standard connections such as; HDMI, SDI, and HD-STI. The Matrox MX02 LE also features a colour calibration tool that allows you calibrate your monitor before colour correction, which ensures that what you see is what you get.
