Montreal, April 21, 2008—RCI viva, Radio-Canada International’s Web service for new and aspiring immigrants, is launching MIGR@TIONS, an international short-film and audio podcast competition on the theme of immigration. A follow-up to last year’s DIGITAL DIVERSITY / MÉTISSÉ SERRÉ competition, MIGR@TIONS is now open to creators around the world. Singer JOHNNY CLEGG is the international spokesperson for the competition, which aims to build bridges internationally and locally, between cultural communities in countries across the globe. Contestants 18 years and over can submit a four to nine-minute short-film or a two to five-minute audio podcast that takes an original, constructive look at immigration. All genres will be accepted, from comedy to drama, documentary or even science fiction. Participants will have until June 30, 2008 to submit entries. The competition’s jury of EILEEN ARANDIGA (Canada), GEORGE ELDRED (US), SARAH HOCH (Mexico), BRONWYN KIDD (Australia) and JUKKA-PEKKA LAAKSO (Finland), will select the works to be posted online as of September 29, 2008, on RCIviva.ca. These short-listed entries will compete for international and Canadian prizes for Best Fiction and Best Documentary as well as the People’s Choice Award, determined by online vote. The winners will share $50,000 CAN in prizes. Certain audio podcasts will be aired locally across CBC Radio One stations and internationally on RCI. MIGR@TIONS is an opportunity for people to express their vision and show their realities of immigration through image and sound. Thanks to its international scope, the competition will give voice to a wide range of viewpoints and perspectives, while promoting audiovisual creativity. No topic is off limits—tolerance, integration, family traditions, cultural diversity, romance, culture shock, to name but a few. With the launch of MIGR@TIONS, Radio Canada International is proud to continue the adventure started with DIGITAL DIVERSITY / MÉTISSÉ SERRÉ, an original initiative by RCI viva that generated an overwhelming response last year. The fact that so many people entered the competition and saw their entries receive worldwide exposure clearly demonstrates just how relevant and popular Radio Canada International is today, as well as the leadership role it plays within the country’s cultural communities. MIGR@TIONS is a bilingual English-French competition with international juries selecting winners in both languages. For more information on the competition, rules and how to participate: RCIviva.ca |
