SAW Video and Gallery 101 are pleased to present international Chilean Artist Roberto Farriol for his first video screening in Ottawa. Roberto will hold an artist's talk on MIGRATION and the immigrant experience. While in Canada, Roberto will conduct a series of interviews with immigrants in order to produce a video that provides a glimpse into the immigrant perspective and how being a foreigner implies peering in from a distance. Some of Farriol's recent video works include 2 segundos de amor convertidos en 1 minuto, an exploration on the theme of romance by way of television and its soap operas, and J.L. (sobre paisaje), a narrative based on digital collage about landscape and unity.
Biography
Roberto Farriol is the Director of the Department of Fine Arts, Pontificia Universidad Catolica de Chile, and a contemporary Chilean artist based in Santiago. He holds a Master of Fine Arts from the Panthéon, Sorbonne, Paris, and has participated in numerous exhibitions in Chile and internationally since 1971. Currently working towards a PhD in Fine Arts from the Universidad Politécnia de Valencia, Farriol examines the origins of video art in Chile.

SAW Vidéo et la Galerie 101 sont heureux d'accueillir l'artiste chilien de réputation internationale, Roberto Farriol, qui présentera, pour la première fois à Ottawa, une projection vidéo. Roberto tiendra une causerie sur MIGRATION et parlera de la vie des immigrants. Pendant son séjour au Canada, Roberto réalisera une série d'entrevues avec des immigrants qui servira ensuite à la production d'une vidéo mettant en lumière leurs points de vue, et qui montrera que l'étranger se voit souvent obligé d'observer les autres en conservant une certaine distance. Parmi les ouvres vidéo récentes de Farriol, notons 2 segundos de amor convertidos en 1 minuto, une exploration du thème de la romance par le biais de la télévision et des feuilletons télévisés, et J.L. (sobre paisaje), un récit basé sur un collage numérique portant sur le paysage et l'unité.
Biographie
Artiste contemporain du Chili basé à Santiago, Roberto Farriol est directeur du Département des beaux-arts de la Pontificia Universidad Catolica de Chile. Il est titulaire d'une maîtrise en beaux-arts du Panthéon, Sorbonne, Paris, et il a participé à plusieurs expositions au Chili et à l'étranger. Présentement, Farriol poursuit des études doctorales en beaux-arts de la Universidad Politécnia de Valencia portant sur les origines de l'art de la vidéo au Chili.
