In November 2013, City of Ottawa council approved plans to move forward with the redevelopment of the Arts Court building. Several resident organizations are about to undergo massive transformations and the face of downtown Ottawa is about to change thanks to this large-scale act of cultural engineering.
SAW Video is currently accepting proposals from local media artists in the Ottawa-Gatineau region to document the long process of deconstruction and reconstruction. We are looking for up to three artists or artist teams to regularly generate multi-disciplinary artistic content for a project-specific website beginning in late 2014 and finishing in late 2016/early 2017. Proposals should demonstrate an artistic vision and unique perspective on the redevelopment of Arts Court and how it reflects the larger topic of “cultural engineering.” Proposals that have a public engagement or community involvement aspect are also encouraged.
Proposals are required to have a prominent video aspect but can also include photography, writing, drawing, performance, audio or any other artistic medium. Each artist or artist team will be expected to deliver one instalment of new website content every two-to-three months. The project will culminate in an exhibition of the accumulated material. Free production equipment rentals will be given to successful applicants to help create their content and fees will be paid to artists for both content production and exhibition.
Interested applicants are required to submit a two-page written proposal outlining their unique vision for the project, a resume (maximum 3 pages), and up to three pieces of support material. Audiovisual support material may be submitted on DVD, CD, QuickTime file(s) on a USB key, or as an online Vimeo/Youtube link. The maximum total length of all audiovisual support material combined is 10 minutes. If you would like your support material returned to you, please include a note with your submission.
Send us your proposals by February 21st, 2014 if you would like them to be considered for CULTURAL ENGINEERING. Applications can be dropped off at SAW Video in person or mailed to the following address:
